Karnataka is known across the world for growing high-coloured dry chillies. Major areas are Hubli, Bellary, and Raichur. Varieties are Byadgi / KDL, Dabbi, Syngenta 5531, Syngenta 2043, and others. Tungabhadra and Almatti Reservoir are the main irrigation water suppliers for Karnataka area Dry Chillies.

January 2024 Sumarized
- Major arrivals were Syngentha 5531, Syngentha 2043 and Byadgi / KDL.
- Compared with last year, arrivals are 12 % more.
- Compared with last year sowing was delayed by 1 month, so February arrivals will increase.
- This year the percentage of arrivals of colour medium and top quality is more than last year.
- January last week Byadgi / KDL price was 43,000 and Syngentha 5531 was 14,000. Prices from 1st week of January to last week saw a decrease of 10-15%.
- January weather was good for crops, Bellary and Raichur area crops are performing well. The climate is good. First picking’s will be of high quality and will have higher yielding.
- This year’s reservoir storage is lowest in the last 4 years, compared with previous years it is 60-70% less and outflow is 60% less.
- Due to high carry forward stock, farmer’s sentiment is average.
