  • Hubli, which is located in Karnataka is known for growing Byadgi/KDL variety popularly known as Local.
  • Local Byadgi has highest colour value among chillies, upto 270 ASTA.
  • It is grown organically in traditional way which gives it higher self life. Self life of its powder last upto 18-24 months.
  • The red area is Local Byadgi.

  • Hubli is 500 kms from Bangalore.

  • Major areas are Kundgol and Annigeri.

  • Sowing starts in June.

  • Harvest period is from November to March.

Summarised Report : 2020-21

  • Crop area was higher than the last year, but due to excess rainfall there was loss of crop.

  • Large portion of harvest was of lower quality, this resulted in all time high price.

  • On Positive side – Higher price has given big confidence boost to farmer community. From past few years, crop area was reducing due to disease and high labour cost.
